Businesses that own their category.
CO1 Owner is recognition for a business that has made its Category of One visible and coherent — not a badge that can simply be purchased.
A standard, not a subscription
CO1 Owner status signals that a business has done the work: it has chosen a clear Category of One, translated it into consistent expression, and can show evidence of the position actually being visible in the market — not just written down internally.
How recognition is decided
- Application — the business submits its Category of One and how it is expressed across the market.
- Evidence — supporting evidence is reviewed: messaging, customer experience, market recognition.
- Recognition decision — CO1 assesses the application against the recognition standard.
- Owner status — recognised businesses receive CO1 Owner status and its associated benefits.
Recognition lasts three years
Renewal is re-application, not automatic continuation — the standard is preserved by asking owners to demonstrate the position is still true, not simply that it once was.
Remediation, not rejection
Where recognition criteria aren’t met, the path may include a one-day consultation and recheck, rather than automatic recognition or an outright no.

Not ready for recognition yet?
Recognition assumes a Category of One already exists and is visible. If yours still needs constructing, that’s the work of Paddlers.
